Wrestling originated in ancient Greece as a everyday exercise to train the soldiers for all their battles. There were even earlier signs of wrestling when cave drawings were found in a Sumero-Akkadian civilization in 3000b.c. . And also more drawings were found in ancient Egypt in 2400b.c. . Wrestling entered the Olympic games in 708b.c., only as a part of the pentathlon. The sport was also popular among the Romans and eventually made its way around the world. The first recorded national championships in the United States was in 1888.
